Responsibilities: The Mechanical Engineer provides engineering services and resources to identify, design, evaluate, and implement repairs and improvements to WEP’s facilities and infrastructure. The Mechanical Engineer uses engineering principles and his/her engineering skills to investigate, identify, and evaluate problems with mechanical equipment and systems and develops cost effective designs to solve those problems. This position is also a department representative at project construction sites as quality control and oversight. Additional responsibilities: • Manages, supervises, and directs sanitary engineers and wastewater technicians. • Supervises and inspects capital project works in progress. • Reviews and approves shop drawings and contractor submittals. • Reviews and approves contractor and consultant pay applications. • Develops the division budget for the department. • Reviews plans and designs of wastewater systems and infrastructure. • Oversees specifications for final designs to ensure construction adherence to engineering principles. • Prepares engineering cost estimates. • Oversees special projects such as asset renewal. Work Hours & Benefits: The Mechanical Engineer position is a full-time salaried position. Typical work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 35 hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a baccalaureate degree in mechanical engineering or civil engineering and four (4) years of relevant engineering work; or, B. Ten (10) years of professional level civil engineering experience, or its part time equivalent, two (2) years of which must have been in the design and construction of wastewater systems projects; or, C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of A and B above.
