The Facilities Lead Engineer ensures that all systems and facilities operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all applicable regulations and standards. KEY RESPONSIOBILITIES: • Assist the Director of Facilities in planning, directing, and managing the operations and maintenance of all college buildings, utility plants, and grounds. • Provide technical leadership in the operation and maintenance of central Plant chilled water and hot water systems, including water-cooled chillers, hydronic boilers, cooling towers, pumps, and heat exchangers, AHU’s, RTU’s and other campus buildings that are not connected to the central plant. • Manage the recruitment, training, and performance evaluation of physical plant staff. • Manage and support day-to-day maintenance operations, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general trades, with a focus on preventive and predictive maintenance. • Lead, mentor, coach and evaluate the engineering team including vendors contractors to ensure high performance and accountability. • Monitor and analyze equipment performance and energy usage via Building Automation Systems (BAS) and campus energy dashboards. • Oversee, participate and response to system failures and critical emergencies, ensuring prompt restoration of services while maintaining occupant safety. • Participate with the Director of Facilities in planning, budgeting, and execution of capital renewal and infrastructure improvement projects. • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local codes and environmental regulations, including refrigerant management and boiler inspections. • Assign work orders to the engineering team through the college’s ticketing system. • Maintain operational records, including CMMS documentation, compliance logs, and system performance reports. • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits. • Act as a backup to the Director of Facilities when they are unavailable QUALIFICATIONS: • 7–10 years of progressive experience in facilities management, including 3+ years in a leadership or supervisory role, preferably in a higher education or institutional setting. • Deep technical knowledge of commercial water-cooled chillers, hydronic boilers, and related MEP systems. • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Facilities Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered. • Professional certifications such as EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Stationary Engineer License, or Boiler Operator Certification strongly preferred. • Proven ability to manage large-scale maintenance operations and lead diverse technical teams. • Experience with CMMS and BAS platforms; strong computer and data analysis skills. • Excellent communication, project management, and customer service skills. • Strong commitment to safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
