Primary Responsibilities • Design and develop production tooling and fixturing to support machining, welding, assembly, handling, and inspection operations. • Create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks, releasing controlled documentation through Windchill EPLM. • Develop workholding solutions for new and existing CNC machining centers, including 3-axis, 5-axis, mill-turn, VTL, and gantry equipment. • Apply GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and perform tolerance stack analyses to ensure tooling and part interfaces meet functional requirements. • Generate bills of materials (BOMs) and support procurement of tooling components, hardware, and fabricated assemblies. • Serve as a CAD and drawing checker/reviewer for the Manufacturing Engineering team, ensuring accuracy, proper GD&T application, adherence to Leidos design practices, and high-quality documentation standards. • Lead tooling design projects from concept through deployment, including requirements definition, design reviews, prototype evaluations, and transition to production. • Collaborate closely with Manufacturing Engineering, CNC Programming, Weld Engineering, Quality, and Production to ensure tooling supports safe, efficient, and repeatable shop-floor execution. • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling ergonomics, setup reduction, machining efficiency, and process capability. Basic Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 4-8 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s Degree with 2-6 years of experience from an ABET-accredited institution. • Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software, with experience producing detailed models, assemblies, and engineering drawings. • Demonstrated experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stack-up analysis. • Ability to interpret machining requirements and effectively collaborate with CNC programmers on workholding needs. • Ability to work with limited direction while managing priorities and leading tooling design efforts. • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. • Clear and effective communication skills across multidisciplinary teams. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). • Must be a US Citizen and meet the eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
