Your Opportunity The role of Senior Mechanical Engineering is to guide our Mechanical team and manage the design and delivery of small to large projects and to develop and maintain relations with current and future clients within our business line. You will represent project work in client meetings and be part of teams to cultivate relationships with client organizations. As a Senior Engineer you will focus on the design, construction, operation and maintenance of mechanical systems for engineering projects of a complex nature. You would provide leadership and training to more junior professional and technical staff and provide technical guidance to less experienced professionals or technicians assigned to work on a common project. Intermittently, you will guide investigations and advise on unusual and difficult problems encountered in the mechanical engineering practice, and to use and apply advanced engineering principles and have a working knowledge of advanced technical research. You would provide support in the pursuit of projects as part of an integrated team to develop fees, project schedules, and mechanical teams to execute work and support our client base. Your Key Responsibilities • Identify / recommend / advocate resources and strategies needed to meet business goals defined for the group.- Mentor and grow a team of skilled engineers, identify training and professional development opportunities. • Resolve resource gaps. • Strategic partnering with clients, developers, and consultants. • Identify and support strategic hires. • Support marketing and collaborate with other leaders on business development targets. • Collaborate on and develop mechanical team growth, project scope, schedules, budgets, and design approach for project pursuits. • As a Senior Mechanical Lead, assist, and oversee staff on complex projects, evaluate, select, specify, and engineer all mechanical engineered systems or products for a project - Apply advanced knowledge of current principles and practices of mechanical engineering and keep informed of new methods and developments. • Engage a team and lead the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats. • Teaming with design colleagues to conceptualize and develop full documentation for new construction and renovation projects. • Day-to-day team oversight and communication with the client and project team. • Track project progress against proposed scope, fee, schedule, and budget, communicate with stakeholders, identify and offer options to mitigate risk. • Coordinate and lead other disciplines on projects as needed. • Evaluate engineered systems as part of project work. • Manage project scope, budget, and schedule. • Be comfortable with project work for multiple sectors such as science and technology, industrial, manufacturing, commercial office, healthcare, higher education, and/or research laboratory. Your Capabilities and Credentials • Strong understanding of the Science and Technology and Mechanical Discipline within the US Northeast and beyond. • Demonstrated technical skills on major projects. • Exceptional leadership, verbale and written communication, organization, coordination, and team-building skills. • Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of the mechanical and/or plumbing codes, energy codes, ASHRAE standards, and other building codes. • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems means and methods, materials, concepts, and industry standards. • Participate and collaborate in a team setting and engage in creative and critical thought. • Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving problems. • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple ongoing projects. • Knowledge of and ability to use standard computer applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit. • Knowledge of and ability to use software for heating/cooling load calculations, either Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, IES, or equivalent. • Experience with responding to Requests for Proposals, Expression of Interests, Statement of Qualifications. • Highly motivated with the desire to work in fast-paced team-oriented environment. • Strong business development skills, including significant experience building and maintaining productive relationships with a client base. • An entrepreneurial orientation with strong understanding of the business development challenges of a consulting-services provider. Education and Experience 10+ years of related experience (Consulting preferred) relevant working experience in designing Mechanical and HVAC systems, with a minimum 5 years of project management experience. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution, or equivalent relevant experience. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is a plus. PMP certification, is desirable. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
