JOB SUMMARY: Designs, analyzes, and maintains mechanical components and systems to meet specified requirements and standards. Utilizes technical instruments to develop specifications for new parts, modifications, or prototypes. Identifies appropriate materials and processes to ensure the quality, performance, and manufacturability of products. Utilizes CAD software and other design and modeling tools to plan, develop, and improve mechanical parts or components and communicate conceptual designs and specifications to stakeholders. Conducts prototype testing to evaluate the performance, reliability, and safety of mechanical systems and collects and analyzes data for improvements. Analyzes and troubleshoots mechanical issues or failures to identify root causes and develop solutions. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Work with shops to enter bills of materials and routers to ensure costs are correct and that the shops have the documentation they require to build product. • Create or revise cutting books files or drawings when needed to ensure the shops have up to date information. • Develop or procure test equipment to ensure the test requirements of the standard are being met. • Establish and maintain internal quality standards for product to be held to • Inspect special classes of product with more stringent product requirements • Maintain and implement files for CNC cutter to operate on and assist with calibration of machine when needed • Identify and resolve quality issues that arise in production and aide Quality Manager. • Maintain test equipment so that down time is minimized in the event equipment breaks down and perform preventative maintenance on equipment that requires it. • Maintain calibration process ensuring that all equipment utilized is calibrated and in good working order at prescribed intervals and order equipment when needed. • Create or revise product instructions, work instructions, and special processes. • Create or revise Quality Management system documentation (for ISO 9001 and/or ISO 17025). • Raise corrective actions when non-conformances are identified and perform root cause analysis (if required). • Assist in designing products / dies / fixtures / test equipment on 2D Draftsight/AutoCad or 3D Solidworks software. • Assist in incoming material inspections when required. • Create or update incoming inspection reports • Perform label printer maintenance and repairs • Perform part number maintenance, which includes (but is not limited to) inactivating part numbers, checking part numbers entered for accuracy, releasing part numbers for the shops to build, putting part numbers on hold pending review, mass replacing part numbers, and entering subcomponent part numbers. • Assist with issuing product change bulletins. • Create or revise instructions and product labels • Review and revise standards as necessary / actively participate in standard meetings in which Buckingham has a vested interest (ASTM, ANSI, CSA, etc). • Work with third party test laboratories when testing activities are subcontracted. ACCOUNTABILITIES: • Responsible for ensuring the accurate investigations and reporting of data to recommend actions for continuous improvement. MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Ability to perform all assigned tasks, work independently, and complete work on schedule. • Follows direction while displaying cooperative and positive behavior with co-workers • Basic understanding and ability to read prints and schematics • Ability to develop and execute a detailed test plan. • Working knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Draftsight/AutoCad, Solidworks).
