This role involves the decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical supplies. The technician must follow strict safety and sterilization protocols and contribute to the operational effectiveness of the sterile processing department. Required Skills & Experience • Minimum 3 years of sterile processing experience • Basic computer skills • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities (phone, intercom, and in person) • Successful completion of a Medical Terminology course or passing a facility-approved medical terminology challenge exam • Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Certification – Required Key Responsibilities • Safely and effectively decontaminate surgical instruments and clinical equipment • Follow proper procedures for sorting, disassembling, rinsing, and disinfecting instruments • Adhere to PPE and infection control guidelines • Assemble instruments accurately using count sheets • Wrap, containerize, and label instrument sets properly • Inspect instruments for cleanliness and functionality • Maintain proper storage and handling of sterile supplies and equipment • Access and interpret physician preference cards • Retrieve and deliver medical/surgical supplies as needed • Select appropriate sterilization methods (Steam, ETO, Sterrad, Steris I) • Operate and understand SPD equipment: sterilizers, washers, ultrasonic cleaners, heat sealers, etc. • Document sterilization loads, biological tests, and results accurately • Participate in supply management: ordering, receiving, stocking, and tracking usage • Communicate supply or equipment issues promptly • Serve as a resource for staff regarding sterile processing procedures • Track personal training progress and participate in in-service education and meetings • Be available for on-call shifts as needed • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment • Deliver consistent, high-quality service to patients, staff, and visitors • Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership
