OPTI STAFFING GROUP IS HIRING Opening: Manual Machinist Location: Anchorage, AK Pay: $26 - $28 PH Join a busy Anchorage job shop as a Manual Machinist. If you take pride in precision work and like variety from day to day repairs to new builds this is a solid place to make an impact. COMPANY INFO: We are partnering with a long standing job shop that supports construction, heavy equipment, fishing, forestry, marine, and oil and gas projects. The crew is hands on, the pace is steady, and pride in a clean safe shop really matters. WHAT YOU’LL DO: • Set up and run manual lathes and vertical and horizontal mills • Read and interpret prints, sketches, and specs to plan your work • Machine shafts, pins, bushings, gears, key seats, and key slots • Cut OD and ID threads including SAE, acme, and tapered threads • API thread experience is a bonus • Perform drilling and tapping operations with accurate layout and measuring • Use and care for precision tools micrometers OD and ID, calipers, scales • Assist with disassembly and reassembly of components for repair such as electric motors, gear boxes, and marine winches • Follow shop safety practices and maintain a clean organized work area REQUIREMENTS: • Five years of manual machining experience in a job shop or similar environment • Strong blueprint reading, shop math, and tolerance knowledge • Hands on skill with lathes, mills, band saws, hydraulic presses, push broaches, and common grinding tools • Own basic hand tools adjustable wrench, hammer, hex wrenches, screwdrivers, files and personal precision measuring tools • Able to lift and move materials safely and stand for extended periods • Reliable, team oriented, and able to follow direction while working independently BENEFITS: • Medical, dental, and vision insurance • Paid time off and paid holidays • Retirement plan with employer contribution • Uniforms and PPE provided NEXT STEPS: Just hit the “Apply” button above and you’re half-way home! Job Description Job Description Position: Machinist Position Overview The machinist has a crucial role in the setup, operation, and maintenance of manual and CNC machine tools to fabricate precision parts and make repairs. This position offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment where quality, precision, and safety are top priorities. The machinist will be skilled in the use of precision machinery and equipment such as lathes, vertical and horizontal milling machines, hydraulic presses, band saws, push broaches, and a variety of cutting tools and grinding equipment in order to machine shafts, pins, bushings, gears, cut key seats and key slots, drill and tap holes, and cut OD and ID threads such as SAE and ACME; ability to cut tapered API threads would be highly preferred. The machinist will collaborate closely with the general manager, project manager, and other machinists and welders to meet project timelines and maintain the highest manufacturing standards. Qualifications General: • Proven experience as a machinist or machine shop technician (minimum of 3 years). • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification preferred. • Strong understanding of machining techniques and machine tooling principles for manual machine operations and some CNC programming. • Familiarity with primarily manual and some CNC machines. • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications. • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers. • Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting. • Knowledge of workplace safety standards and procedures. Preferred Skills: • Knowledge of various materials (steel, aluminum, plastics, etc.). • Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam). • Basic CNC programming capabilities. • Certification in machining and/or related fields. • Overhead crane operations • Forklift operations • Waterjet cutting systems Physical Requirements: • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. • Ability to stand for prolonged periods in a shop environment. • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Key Responsibilities Machine Operation: Set up and operate primarily manual machines (lathe, mill, grinder, etc.) to produce high-quality, precise parts. Some CNC operations. Blueprint Reading: Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and specifications to determine machining procedures and dimensions. Quality Control: Inspect finished parts using micrometers, calipers, and other measuring instruments to ensure adherence to design tolerances. Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance and troubleshooting of machines to ensure reliable, efficient operation. Tool Management: Select, inspect, and maintain cutting tools, fixtures, and related equipment. Safety Compliance: Follow all safety regulations and maintain a clean, organized workspace. Collaboration: Work closely with engineering and production teams to optimize workflow and meet deadlines. Continuous Improvement: Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance productivity and efficiency. Problem Solving: Disassemble and reassemble customer equipment to perform machining repairs such as electrical motors, gear boxes, winches, and many other assorted equipment. Professional Tool Set Requirements An experienced professional machinist is expected to furnish their own basic machine tool set including but not limited to: basic measuring equipment such as OD/ID micrometers, calipers, scales, basic hand tools, crescent wrenches, allen wrenches, screw drivers and files.
