GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Design, install, maintain, upgrade, clean, repair, and adjust the college’s facilities plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. This includes all types of high and low temperature atmosphere furnaces, atmosphere generating equipment, temperature controlling equipment, water cooling equipment, gas, water, and all pneumatic, hydraulic or mechanical controls equipment, and piping associated with these systems. Test, adjust & initiate all water treatment regarding all physical plant and pool operations. In addition, inspect, repair and certify all cross-connection devices. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and cleaning of all plumbing and HVAC systems • Troubleshooting, dismantling, repairing, and reassembling plumbing and HVAC units as necessary. • Maintain the maintenance history of all environmental control equipment in use, including lubrication, preventative maintenance activities, repairs and installation dates, etc. • Work from blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions to lay out and install a wide variety of regular and specialized types of piping systems • Conduct all water testing and treatment for all boiler and cooling water operations • Assist in pool operation, as needed as well as mechanical pool operations and water treatment controls. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: (Continued) • Direct and instruct other maintenance personnel providing assistance as necessary. • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required to safely complete all duties/assignments. • Report or eliminate (if possible) any unsafe conditions that are discovered or observed to the Director of Facilities. • All other assignments as directed • Work within OSHA and any other regulatory agency guidelines at all times. EQUIPMENT USED: • All pipe fitting equipment, portable power tools, drill presses, welding equipment, ladders, scaffolds, lifting equipment, and a wide variety of hand tools, cutting and brazing torches, etc. SAFETY EQUIPMENT: • Includes, but is not limited to: - Steel toed safety shoes or boots - Eye protection (glasses or shield) - Hearing protection - Leather gloves - Biohazard protection - Rubber gloves - Full face shield - Apron • Hard hat QUALIFICATIONS: (Minimum) • Valid New York State Driver’s License. • 5 years of experience in plumbing/HVAC repair techniques on various types of equipment. • Must possess a working knowledge of general maintenance functions. • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. • Must possess basic hand tolls for the trade • Must be certified in refrigerant handling. QUALIFICATIONS: (Preferred) • As listed above • Possess a Pool Operator’s license/Certification • Possess Backflow Device Testing Certification NOTE: Due to the driving requirements, this position is subject to the College’s Motor Vehicle Use Policy and the employee will be required to sign a release upon hire, as well as, annually; so that the College may obtain a Motor Vehicle Report for the personnel file.
