Journeyman Electrician

Role and Responsibilities Journeymen Electricians install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. Under supervision of Foremen and Project Managers, they also ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes. Other duties may include: · Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes. · Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job; Use a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps. · Be knowledgeable on tool usage, some examples include: cable reels, screwdrivers, stripping tools, voltage or current meters, wire or cable cutters, etc. · Conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance. · Determine causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it. · Follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes. · Place conduit, pipes, or tubing, inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes. · Place conduit, pipes, or tubing, inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes. · Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit or moving or lifting heavy objects. · Fluent with EMT conduit and modest experience with rigid conduit. · Can perform power distributions (transformers, panels, fenders, etc.). · Able to perform large and small wire pulls with little or no supervision. · Must have some knowledge of special systems. · Establish and maintain a team work environment with others; appropriate interaction with external customers or the public. · Other additional related tasks and duties as needed. Work Environment This job operates in a field environment. Electricians may be involved in construction or maintenance usually work a 40-hour, five-day week plus overtime when required. Working conditions can change dramatically from one job to another, varying from indoors in clean conditions to outdoors on scaffolding, and to confined and restricted locations. May require working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions; exposure to contaminants and exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Physical Demands This is largely an active role. Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials; Requires repetitive movement; climbing ladders, scaffolds, or poles; standing, walking and running; using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls; and bending or twisting.
