Electrician Helper

Position: Electrician Helper Status: Full Time, Non Exempt Schedule: Days, 8-Hour Shifts • All positions at Northlake Behavioral Health require the successful completion of a post-offer/pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen. Position Summary: The Electrician Helper supports the Maintenance team in maintaining, repairing, and installing electrical systems throughout the healthcare system’s various facilities. This role assists with routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repairs to ensure safe and reliable operation of lighting, power, and equipment in patient care, administrative, and support areas. The Electrician Helper also helps maintain compliance with hospital safety policies, building codes, and regulatory standards. This position requires close attention to safety protocols, particularly within a behavioral health environment, to protect patients, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities: • Assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, fixtures, equipment, and controls throughout the healthcare system. • Performs basic electrical tasks such as replacing light bulbs, outlets, switches, fuses, and breakers under supervision. • Helps with troubleshooting electrical issues under the guidance of lead staff. • Utilizes tools such as voltmeters and other testing equipment to ensure proper electrical function. • Helps with the setup of electrical components, including wiring, circuit breakers, and lighting fixtures. • Support routine inspections of electrical systems to identify hazards, defects, and/or needed repairs. • Measures, cuts, and bends wire and conduit. • Drills holes for wiring, helps pull wire, run conduit, and prepare materials and tools for work assignments. • Supports frame carpentry tasks as needed for electrical installations. • Maintains cleanliness organization, and safety of tools, equipment, and work areas. • Safely handle tools, ladders, and equipment, following all hospital safety and infection-control policies. • Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment as instructed. • Adheres to Northlake Behavioral Health System’s safety standards, ensuring patients do not have access to tools or hazardous materials. • Responds promptly to work orders in a courteous and professional manner. • Assists in documenting work performed to support compliance with hospital policies, building codes, and regulatory requirements. • Communicates effectively with team members to ensure project timelines are met. • Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience or coursework related to commercial electrician work preferred. Skills and Experience: Prior work experience in maintenance, construction, HVAC, or electrical work strongly preferred. Basic knowledge of hand and power tools required. Ability to work as part of team, follow instructions, and under supervision. Strong commitment to safety practices. Must be able to work in a healthcare environment with sensitivity to patient privacy, safety, and behavioral health considerations. HIPAA: Does not have access to patient records or HID. Must adhere to all HIPAA requirements and guidelines. Work Demands/Environment: Climbing, ability to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps using feet, legs, hands and arms. Body agility is important. Maintaining bodily equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. Requires stooping, bending the spine at the waist, kneeling, bending at the knees, coming to rest on a single or both knees. Must be able to crawl, move about on hands, knees and feet. Must be able to reach, extend hands and arms in any direction. Must be able to stand for sustained periods. Must be able to move about on foot to accomplish tasks walking long distances. Must be able to push and use upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust it forward, downward or outward. Must be able to use upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in sustained motion. Must be able to lift raising objects from a lower to higher position. Must be able to move objects horizontally from position to position. Must be able to use fingers to pick, pinch, or otherwise work with the fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling; grasping, applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm; feeling, perceiving attributes of object such as size, shape, temperature and texture by touching the skin, particularly with the fingertips. Substantial repetitive motions of the wrist, hands fingers or other body parts. Talking ability to express or exchange ideas via spoken word. Ability to perceive the nature of sounds with no less than 40 decibel loss @ Hz 1000, 2000 Hz, with or without correction, and to perceive detailed communication and to make fine discriminations in sound such as when making adjustments or fine adjustments on machined parts. Work is considered to be very heavy and required exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects in a manner of force, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The Worker is subject to environmental conditions occurring inside and outside of the building where temperatures below 40 degrees for periods of more than an hour and above 100 degrees for a period of more than an hour.
