UG Mine Electrician

As our underground electrician, you will troubleshoot, maintain, and install electrical and instrumentation equipment to keep our production going and our profitability up. Every day you will work in a mine on a remote island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. You’ll start every job with safety first by inspecting your workplace, and then installing, repairing, and removing electrical infrastructures. You will be called upon to assist in the planning of electrical and instrumentation jobs, including design, scheduling, and procurement. To thrive in this role, you must have experience working as an electrician and feel comfortable enough with electrical components that you know: not just how to set them up, but how to identify problems and fix them in real-time. We’re on a remote island, you must know how to work independently. About Us The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing roughly 500 people. Every hire is provided MSHA training in the first 4 days on the job. We also provide department-level training on not just what to do, but safety, as well. • Apply your technical aptitude to install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation equipment located in surface and underground mineral processing and power generation facilities. • Working on a remote island and living in a mining camp environment away from home. Every department is slightly different, but our electrical department works 15 days for 12.5 hours each, followed by 13 days off. • You’ll be above and/or below ground doing workplace inspections assigned each morning. Then, we’ll rely on you to prioritize your work before you get started. • Safety is important. KETCHIKAN GATEWAY BOROUGH SCHOOL DISTRICT KETCHIKAN ALASKA JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF MAINTENANCE JOB PURPOSE: To effectively perform skilled manual work in maintaining and upgrading the Electrical and HVAC systems and refrigeration systems within the district. Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 1. Maintain, modify, trouble shoot and repair existing installed Electrical and HVAC systems, including but not limited to Siemens systems and their components and various refrigeration systems. 2. Maintain, modify and repair High voltage Electrical systems including load centers, switchgear, motors and motor controls. 3. Maintain, modify and repair low voltage systems including building fire alarm systems, building security systems, building CCTV systems, and building clock and intercom systems. 4. Is available for emergency call-outs in the school district. 5. Perform interior and exterior building maintenance which would include, in addition to Electrical and HVAC needs, basic carpentry, and plumbing. 6. Operates light to moderately heavy vehicles and equipment. 7. Makes estimates of material and repair parts requirements. 8. Keeps records of out time and material required to complete assignments. 9. Establishes logs and maintains records on maintenance checks and work completed. 10. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of work. 11. Be available to engage in all jobs as may be necessary. 12. Performs heavy manual labor for extended periods. If necessary, work under undesirable weather conditions. 13. Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned. Requirements: 1. High School Diploma with four years experience as a Maintenance Electrician and/or HVAC Engineer. 2. Two years apprenticeship training as a Maintenance Electrician and/or HVAC Engineer. Training may be substituted with two years work as a maintenance electrician. 3. Demonstrated ability to read and follow electrical drawings, pneumatic drawings, blueprints and understand schematic symbols and perform troubleshooting when and where necessary. 4. Must have an understanding of High and Low Voltage building Electrical systems including load centers, switch gear, motors, fire alarm, security, CCTV, and clock and intercom systems. 5. Must have an understanding of and the demonstrated ability to operate, calibrate and repair controls and transmitters for heating, cooling, air-conditioning, ventilation and humidification, electric and electronic control systems, Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems and refrigeration systems. 6. Demonstrated ability to operate multimeters, sling psychrometers, and various other test equipment. 7. Demonstrated ability to operate Direct Digital Controls in the IBM environment. 8. Demonstrated ability to maintain and exhibit a positive attitude in relation to Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District and co-workers. 9. Ability to perform tasks in a neat and workman-like manner with the initiative, willingness and potential to continue to upgrade personal maintenance skills which might involve your own personal time. 10. Must possess a strong mechanical background. 11. Overview ELECTRICAL ENGINEER (USCG): Bowhead is seeking an Electrical Engineer to provide electrical engineering (design / construction) services to United States Coast Guard (USCG) Electrical Engineering Unit (CEU) Juneau. Position is located at USCG CEU in Juneau, AK, in support of projects throughout the 17th Coast Guard District (D17) area of responsibility (AOR). Services include independent technical reviews, project scope development, field investigation, planning, specifications, drawings (in AutoCAD), cost estimating, problem and conflict resolution, scheduling and design production, and facility condition assessments. Responsibilities • Provide Electrical engineering services for the CEU Juneau in support of work associated with projects on the Advanced Acquisition Plan and other inserted projects. • Provide Electrical engineering troubleshooting and/or consultations, providing technical and project advice and guidance to CEU Juneau Project Managers. • Conduct comprehensive technical reviews of professional studies, reports and analysis. • Collaborate with managers, other engineers/architects, construction project managers, legal staff, contract specialists and or contractor personnel, and provides advice and insight on the resolution of unique and/or complex engineering problems and disputes. • Provide technical reviews and review comments for project designs, including Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build efforts. • Provide technical responses for A/E and contractor requests for information and coordinates with CEU Juneau Project Manager in developing Scopes of Work for required contract modifications. • Provide facility condition assessments and evaluations throughout D17. • Travel (potential for overnight) to meet with CEU Juneau staff and review contract performance is required. Other travel may include occasional travel to operational & construction sites in USCG District 17 Area of Responsibility (D17 AOR Alaska Maritime Region). Qualifications • This position requires a minimum of 5 years of work experience in the electrical engineering field. • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with AutoCAD is required. • Candidate must have received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. • Must have demonstrated experience in National Building Codes (IBC, IRC & associated reference codes) and Electrical Engineering sub-disciplines including electrical network design (residential, commercial, and industrial), backup power generation, electrical panels, one-line drawings, electric power distribution and transmission, telecommunications, remote sensing, signal processing, digital circuits, instrumentation, etc. • Advanced (Master's and/or PhD) Electrical Engineering degree(s) from an ABET accredited program highly preferred. • Licensed Professional Engineer or other professional licenses, certifications, or specialized training related to position highly desirable. • Additional experience designing projects in Alaska and/or arctic locations and / or demonstrated experience developing/reviewing technical packages for architect and engineering (A/E) services and performance specifications is preferred. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is primarily sedentary and is performed in a normal office environment. Some overnight travel may be required and the contractor may be exposed to risks associated with field work which may include moderate stress such as being exposed to adverse weather, riding in small aircraft, climbing ladders, crawling under buildings, etc. Physical Demands: • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time • Must be able to twist, bend, and squat periodically SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a clearance at the Public Trust level.
