Trades Generalist (Carpenter)

Job Summary: Responsible for performing journeyman level work as a Carpenter and semi-skilled work in painting and masonry. Will assist in carrying out projects, and may supervise and instruct lower grade incumbents as needed; will read blueprints and maintain new and existing equipment. Must have basic knowledge of all hand and shop tools associated with the carpentry trade. Specific duties are as follows but not limited to: Perform journeyman level carpentry to include construction and repair of walls, ceilings, floors, doors, cabinetry, counters, and shelving. Includes roofing, millwork, furniture construction, repair and cabinetwork. Make small repairs to furniture, windows, screens, picture frames. Installation of metal doors and frames and adjust doors and hardware including locks (mortise and cylindrical), door closures, door knobs, hinges, door checks, sash fittings; install metal framing, sheetrock; install all types of ceilings, to include suspended, acoustical and aluminum pan using proper methods and techniques of trade; install floors and baseboards (VCT); install Cabinets and countertops, using proper anchoring methods; Prepares surfaces for painting using appropriate methods and tools, cracks or joints. Will make minor repairs to sheetrock and plaster walls; will prime and apply paint to walls using appropriate technique. Must demonstrate knowledge of math used in the carpentry trade, demonstrating working knowledge of carpentry techniques; supervise and train. Must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting. Must possess and maintain a valid New York State driver's license. Minimum Qualifications: Four years of full time experience in the Carpentry trade under a skilled journeyman which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in the carpentry trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade and school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis. Must possess 2 years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work in related trades of Masonry & Painting under the supervision of a skilled tradesman or completion of an appropriate 2 yr. technical school course. Preferred Qualifications: Work Days: Schedule based on 40 hour work week. Apprentice Carpenter / Laborer

We are a local Commercial Contractor that handles a variety of trades in house. We primarily focus on commercial work. General Carpenter Responsibilities: · Installs foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs using materials such as: wood, steel, metal, concrete, plastics, and composites of multiple materials · Fits and installs window frames, doors, door frames, door hardware, interior and exterior trim using a carpenter’s level, plumb bob, and laser levels · Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground levels · Shapes or cuts materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws. · Follows established safety rules and regulations and maintaining a safe and clean environment · Builds or repairs cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, hand tools, or power tools · Assembles and fastens materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue · Removes damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace, using hand tools · Inspects ceiling or floor tile, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures · Moves necessary materials around jobsite as assigned · Cleans up worksite debris · Operate construction vehicles · Works towards comprehending schematic diagrams, blueprints, sketches, building plans and other specifications · Possess / works towards learning another skill: Drywall Finishing, Concrete Finishing, Painting, etc Advanced Carpenter/Foreman Responsibilities: · Posses advanced knowledge of schematic diagrams, blueprints, sketches, building plans and other specifications and being able to coherently address discrepancies when present · Posses other skills besides carpentry · Being able to recognizes when subcontractors are performing work according to drawings and specs · Being able to do material take offs · Being able to recognize change orders vs contract work · Being able to hit bid job hours and able to answer for project performance · Being able to take pictures and report on job progress · Teaching and helping other carpenters how to advance their skills Qualifications: · Can perform all laborer and carpenter apprentice tasks · Having your own hand tools including but not limited to tool belt, taping knives, power tools, and lasers.
